The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Department of Agriculture and Livestock, has approved the final resolution of the subsidies for the feeding of young sheep-goat animals corresponding to the year 2025. In total, 497,280 euros have been granted to 48 livestock farms in Lanzarote and La Graciosa, which meet the requirements established in the regulatory bases and have presented a total of 6,216 female cattle born in 2024 and subjected to the rearing process.

The main objective of this line of aid is to promote the continuity and sustainability of the livestock sector, promoting the maintenance and renewal of sheep and goat herds, which are essential for the balance of the rural environment and food sovereignty on the island.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and Minister of Agriculture, Oswaldo Betancort, has stressed that livestock rearing is key to ensuring generational replacement in livestock farms, an essential aspect to keep alive an activity that goes far beyond production, since it directly contributes to the landscape, biodiversity and culture of the Lanzarote countryside.

“With this seventh call for aid for rearing, we continue to fulfill the commitments made to the livestock sector. These subsidies are a concrete tool to protect our primary sector, guarantee roots in the territory and preserve a livestock activity that is an essential part of the soul of Lanzarote and La Graciosa”, he pointed out.

The call, published in the Official Gazette of the Province on April 2, received a total of 49 applications, of which 48 have been admitted and one was withdrawn. The amount of aid granted has been 80 euros for each female sheep or goat suitable for rearing, in accordance with the proportional distribution of the assigned budget.

The Cabildo reminds beneficiaries that they have one month from the notification of the resolution to justify the use of the funds, as provided in the regulatory bases.
