The area of Social Welfare and Inclusion of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, led by Marci Acuña, presented this Monday at the headquarters of the first institution the actions contemplated in the Strategic Action Plan for Inclusion.
As reported in a press release, "the objective is to make the Cabildo de Lanzarote a more inclusive administration, with the purpose of having a roadmap that contributes to people with disabilities and their families being able to develop their life project, thus promoting their full inclusion."
Among the measures announced, the Cabildo de Lanzarote will install an Orange Point, with inclusive equipment, in the Inclusion Coso of the Haría Carnival that will be held next Friday, February 23, a service that will provide accompaniment and professional support to people with physical, sensory and intellectual disabilities. And an identifiable point where you can acquire a wheelchair, crutches, sensory backpacks for musical events, noise isolation elements, instruments for calm in crisis situations and professional monitors.
In addition to the president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, and the Minister of Social Welfare and Inclusion, Marci Acuña, the press conference was attended by the Councilor for Culture of Haría, Paula Montero; the island director of Education, Carmen Pellón; and the creator of what will be the new image for people with different abilities, the Diver mascot, Guio Santana.
Oswaldo Betancort congratulated the Minister of Social Welfare and those responsible for the Haría City Council, and all the associations of the Third Sector for the joint work in the field of inclusion, and announced that “all public events promoted by the Cabildo will have an Orange Point, which will mark the path towards real inclusion.” He stressed that “Lanzarote has about 17,000 people with some disability, for whom we must develop policies adapted to this group.”
“Our intention with this Strategic Plan is not only to give visibility to people with different abilities, but we are working to launch new services that allow better communication for the management of procedures and reduce the deadlines to obtain the degree accreditation, as well as social and health infrastructures and more family respite places and functional homes.”

An inclusive coso with its own image
The author of Diver -a design inspired by the Cobi mascot of the 92 Olympic Games, by Javier Mariscal- Guio Santana, thanked the collaboration of the institutions and all the associations and said that “Diver is a mascot born in a volcanic land like Lanzarote that we hope will travel a lot with us.” “Diver represents people with different disabilities and all diversity and I would like it to also serve to financially support the associations with the help of the Cabildo,” he added.
Oswaldo Betancort pointed out that “the mascot and its meaning have to be in all educational centers and in all homes to carry this message of inclusion and together achieve the goal of making Lanzarote and La Graciosa truly inclusive.”
The Councilor for Education of Haría, Paula Montero, highlighted that “the Inclusive Coso of the Haría Carnival will have for the first time a poster with its own image designed by Guio Santana.” A coso that will bring together about 700 people who will travel in a total of 27 adapted buses to achieve the greatest possible participation of people with disabilities, with the aim of enjoying safely.
The Inclusive Island Coso will have the presence of special education centers of the island of Lanzarote, as well as Enclave Classrooms and adapted professional training and groups that work for inclusion.
Finally, the island director of Education, Carmen Pellón, celebrated this initiative of the Cabildo de Lanzarote and highlighted the role played by the Enclave Classrooms, “they are essential to achieve inclusion from the educational community.”
