The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, announced during noon this past Tuesday that he was going to publicly consult with the population of the island what salary he should receive. This decision came after his proposal to raise his salary to 92,928.03 euros gross per year, above Pedro Sánchez, generated controversy at the national level.

The method that Oswaldo Betancort proposed this Tuesday consisted of four options, between 87,000 and 104,000 euros, which would be decided through an online vote at the Data Center of Lanzarote. However, the Cabildo of Lanzarote now announces that, after consulting with the experts of this organization, "who decide the most appropriate form and technique for conducting the popular consultation", a telephone survey will be conducted instead of an online consultation.

The Cabildo assures that "the experts insist that the online survey does not guarantee the rigor and objectivity minimally required of any consultation or demoscopic study." This change will not imply a change in the deadlines, which will remain in a 48-hour consultation and will start on the afternoon of this Wednesday.

The people surveyed will be residents of Lanzarote and will be chosen randomly. The results will be reported after being tabulated and the corresponding report is prepared to be presented in the next plenary session.
