The Cabildo of Lanzarote has awarded the resurfacing work of the road between Guatiza and Mala to the company Herederos de Juan Acuña S.L. for 207,447.32 euros. The project, called 'Insular Bike Lane. Ring of Fire, LZ-42 Access from Guatiza Section III', is co-financed by the Island Corporation and the Government of the Canary Islands.

“The works will allow resurfacing and rehabilitating this road that currently has numerous potholes in the pavement and significant deterioration in its road surface, making driving unsafe,” explains the president, María Dolores Corujo.

“Thanks to this new investment, the LZ-42 road, Guatiza-Mala, will be rehabilitated and improved, with the purpose of making it preferential and safe for cycling, which will give continuity to the so-called 'Ring of Fire' towards the north of the Island,” says the Councilor for Public Works, Jacobo Medina.

According to the Cabildo, the action will have an execution period “of two months”, and will also include “the adaptation and resurfacing of the parking area of the Cactus Garden, attached to said road.”

The so-called 'Ring of Fire' “connects the Timanfaya National Park and the Protected Landscape of La Geria, giving connection with the tourist center of Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen and La Santa until reaching the northeast of the Island, giving priority to the cyclist over the motor vehicle, thus promoting the training of cyclists from professionals to amateurs.”
