The Cabildo of Lanzarote has assured that the Wine Run 2013 has left a positive economic result of 18,245 euros. In addition, it has highlighted this race because "it offers a different healthy leisure alternative that also fits with the policies of promotion and consolidation of the tourist destination Lanzarote".

In this sense, it has explained that the cost for the Cabildo, the Government of the Canary Islands and the State for this event has been 65,264, two thirds coming from the Tourism Competitiveness Plan and the rest from the Corporation's own resources. Thus, the Cabildo allocated a total of 21,754.71 euros through this plan and approximately 40,000 euros were generated by registration and bib numbers, which are in the custody of the Regulatory Council of the Designation of Origin Vinos de Lanzarote to cover the cost of the Wine Run 2014 and the "Save La Geria" project. "That is why the balance shows a positive balance of 18,245 euros", they have indicated from the Cabildo.

The Cabildo has recalled that these economic resources of this Competitiveness Plan "must necessarily be allocated to tourism promotion linked to wine and gastronomy". "The destination of these resources could have been allocated to other tourism products, but it was the Government that preceded the current presidency of the Cabildo who wisely decided on this strategy. Specifically, this strategy was promoted by the Tourism Councils of the Cabildo de Lanzarote and the Government of the Canary Islands and Turespaña, piloted then by the PIL, the PP and the PSOE, respectively", he has acknowledged.

Likewise, the Cabildo has informed that another 45,000 euros were generated from the sale of gastronomic tastings. "In recent years, 6 new cheese factories, 2 wineries and several young entrepreneurs have opted for wine and gastronomic tourism, creating routes and trails in the environment linked to La Geria and other economic activities", he highlighted in a statement.
