The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, and the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, José Valle, have requested an urgent meeting with Saerco, the company awarded the contract for the control tower service at the César Manrique Airport.

The air traffic controllers' strike, which demands salary improvements and a new collective agreement with the company Saerco, which manages the control tower of the César Manrique airport, is causing serious delays in flights to and from Lanzarote and generating a negative impact on both residents and tourists.

Given the serious delays caused by this strike, the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, believes that "the economic interests of Lanzarote are being diminished, in addition to deeply damaging the tourist image of our island, since it is not only the inconveniences of the delays but also the discomfort caused by the saturation of people in the facilities of T1".

For his part, the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote, José Valle, points out that "Saerco is not the same company that manages the aerodromes of Gran Canaria and Tenerife, so we could be talking about a comparative grievance that especially harms the non-capital islands."

This issue will also be on the table at the meeting requested by the leaders of the Cabildo and the Chamber of Commerce, in addition to the commitment announced by the also regional deputy for the Canarian Nationalist Group, Oswaldo Betancort, who will raise to Parliament the consultation on what measures are being taken to prevent this type of grievance from happening again.
