The air traffic controllers' strike at the Saerco company, which manages the control tower at Lanzarote airport, has caused an average of six hours of delays each day in the last week, as confirmed to La Voz by a spokesperson for the Air Traffic Controllers' Union (USCA).
With a daily delay of 344 minutes, Lanzarote airport has been the fifth most delayed airport on the European continent in the overall calculation of the last week, only surpassed by the aerodromes of London Gatwick, Amsterdam, Lisbon and Milan Malpensa.
The air traffic controllers' strike has been ongoing since February of this year to, among other things, demand an improvement in the working and salary conditions of the workers. This labor movement has emerged since then to negotiate a new agreement with Saerco.
Regarding the air traffic controllers' strike, Saerco assures that "it does not understand the strike when there is mediation and conversations underway. This only causes problems for users."
At the same time, they have assured that they have proposed to the workers increases in the salary tables of 5.6% between 2022 and up to 2024, as well as a 10% increase every three years as stipulated in the agreement.
