The Bureau of the Congress rejected on Tuesday, February 20, the processing of the reform of the Statute of the Canary Islands by urgent procedure, as requested by the Canarian Coalition.
The claim of the Canarian nationalists only received the support of Convergencia i Unió, which also signed the petition that CC-NC sent to the Bureau.
The processing by urgent procedure would have implied the reduction to half of all the regulatory deadlines in the Constitutional Commission but, as happened with the claim of CC-NC for the Statute to be processed jointly with the Lotraca, the nationalists have seen their petition frustrated.
The deadline for submitting partial amendments to the Statute will be extended for at least five weeks, although parliamentary sources have stated to ACN Press that this may be extended much longer, in order not to coincide the negotiations with the regional elections in May.
As is known, the Socialist Parliamentary Group wants to reach a consensus with the Popular Party on the Statute of Autonomy, something for which the text must be modified.
