The Department of Elderly of the Arrecife City Council, directed by Rosmen Quevedo, joins the state campaign promoted by the State Confederation of Active Seniors (CONFEMAC) on the occasion of the World Day of Awareness of Abuse and Mistreatment in Old Age, which is commemorated every June 15.

Under the slogan If you don't see it... how do you stop it?, this campaign seeks to make visible a regrettable reality that is often silenced, such as the mistreatment of the elderly, which, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), affects one in six older people worldwide each year.

As a symbolic gesture of support and awareness, the facade of the Arrecife City Council will be illuminated in green hope on the night of Sunday, June 15, joining an action that has already involved more than a hundred municipalities at the state level in previous editions.

“Good treatment of the elderly is a right that we must guarantee every day. This campaign reminds us that looking the other way is also a way of allowing mistreatment,” says the Councilor for the Elderly of the Arrecife City Council, Rosmen Quevedo.

From Mayores Arrecife, the need to create safe, attentive and empathetic environments for the elderly is insisted upon, promoting a collective awareness that rejects all types of abuse: physical, emotional, economic or institutional.

In addition, it is recalled that the free telephone number for attention to abuse and mistreatment of the elderly is 900 65 65 66, an operational service since 2019 that has already managed more than 3,200 real cases in Spain.
