The governments of the Canary Islands and the Basque Country have urged the convening of the sectoral conference on migration to analyze the repercussions of the entry into force of the European migration and asylum pact.

The Canary Islands Minister of Social Welfare, Candelaria Delgado, stated this Saturday that she and her Basque counterpart, Nerea Melgosa, have sent a letter to the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Sáiz, asking her to convene the communities "immediately" and there to see "the day-to-day of how we are going to implement that pact".

Delgado revealed that she informed the minister of the sending of this letter when she coincided with her during the visit of Pope Leo XIV to the Canary Islands.

She did this this Saturday at the inauguration of an international symposium on refugees and migrants that is being held in La Laguna as a culmination of the pontiff's visit to the Canary Islands.
