The Staff Board of the Lanzarote Health Area —made up of the SEPCA, UGT, ASACA, Intersindical Canaria, and SATSE unions— publicly denounces that the island's healthcare is in a risky situation due to the staff cuts being implemented.
According to the workers' representatives, even though the Management "continues to deny the existence of cuts", in practice "spending containment directives aimed at staff adjustment" are being strictly applied.
The unions warn that this scenario is especially serious in those healthcare centers that already had an assistance deficit in their staff. The lack of human resources is making it difficult to cover the ordinary activity of the centers, a situation they describe as "worrying" as we are halfway through the year and which, they assure, "directly compromises the quality of healthcare received by the citizens of Lanzarote".
They demand the manager's dismissal and announce mobilizations
Given what they consider to be management marked by "opacity and lack of dialogue", the Staff Board has already requested the manager's dismissal twice from the Directorate of the Canary Health Service (SCS). In this latest statement, the unions have gone further and demand the "immediate resignation of the manager of the Lanzarote Health Area" or, failing that, that they be summarily dismissed by the regional management.
To solve the crisis, the workers' representatives consider a firm commitment that guarantees the "effective coverage of substitutions" in all the island's healthcare centers to be essential. Otherwise, the Staff Board has already communicated that it will promote different actions and mobilizations in the streets to defend the rights of the workers, the viability of public services, and dignified healthcare for the entire population.
