The machines and workers have stopped their activity mid-morning this Monday. They were working on a plot of land on Balayo street, corner with León Felipe street, located in the Arrecife neighborhood of Argana Alta. The reason for this stoppage was an order from the Department of Urban Planning of the Arrecife City Council, which has carried out the stoppage of the works, after last Tuesday, October 24, agents of the Local Police reported the company Construcciones Miguez Lanzarote S.L. for violating the seal imposed on these works.
The workers were working on foundation work when the agents appeared on the scene and proceeded to remove the machinery and materials used in the work. In addition, the order of the Department of Urban Planning of Arrecife implies other measures, such as the non-concession in this plot of the supply of electricity, water, gas, telephone and cable to the construction company, in addition to reporting the breach of the seal to the Public Prosecutor's Office.
Clashes in the Consistory
The works that have finally been paralyzed this Monday morning have been in recent weeks one of the weapons that have starred in an exchange of accusations between Alternativa Ciudadana and the Government Group of the capital. The councilor of AC-25M, Andrés Barreto, denounced on October 17 that the City Council was acting with "impunity" allowing the construction of supposedly illegal buildings in Balayo street.
For their part, the mayor, María Isabel Déniz, and the councilor for Urban Planning, Nuria Cabrera, defended themselves against these accusations, assuring that, although the procedure had been slow, the works in that street were already sealed. "What they cannot expect is for us to stand in front of the shovels," argued Nuria Cabrera about the delay in sealing the works.
