The Arrecife Animal Welfare Center, under the responsibility of Councilor Jacobo Lemes, is launching a volunteer walking program for the dogs housed in its facilities. This initiative seeks to improve the welfare of the animals and promote their interaction with those who wish to join the program.
Those interested in participating can register at the center (Calle Los Invernaderos s/n), from Monday to Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., starting on March 24. Before starting, they will receive specific training on current regulations, thus ensuring the safety of both volunteers and dogs. In addition, previous experience with dogs considered potentially dangerous will be positively valued.
Currently, the center houses about thirty dogs who hope to have the opportunity to go for a walk. To ensure an equitable distribution of walks, the program will have strict control that will ensure that all animals can enjoy this activity.
In parallel, a special program has been designed for interaction with the cats housed in the aforementioned facilities, allowing volunteers to share time with these animals and contribute to their socialization.
Councilor Jacobo Lemes highlighted the importance of this initiative and stressed that "this program not only benefits the animals, providing them with exercise and stimulation, but also strengthens the bond between the protection center and the citizens. We want to encourage responsibility and affection towards these dogs and cats who are looking for a second chance."
