The 44 homes that the Canary Islands Government is building in Arrecife provide work for around one hundred people and will be completed in a year.

The Minister of Social Welfare, Youth and Housing, Inés Rojas, and the director of the Canary Islands Housing Institute, Jerónimo Fregel, visited this Friday the state of the construction works of the 44 new protected homes of public promotion under a special sale regime that the Government of the Canary Islands is building in Arrecife.

Rojas highlighted the good progress of the work, which is estimated to be completed in February 2012, and stated that "this construction is creating around a hundred jobs and will allow 44 families from Lanzarote to access decent housing in just over a year".

The sale price of the homes ranges between 90,000 and 112,000 euros, depending on the surface area, but the purchasers may be eligible for the subsidy granted by the Government of the Canary Islands, which, depending on the economic and social conditions of the families, can be up to 22,000 euros for the down payment, in addition to the subsidy to the loan installment during the first 10 years.

Rojas highlighted the effort made by the Government and "the great variety of aid and advantages offered by the Canary Islands Housing Plan so that families who need it most and cannot access housing on the free market can find a decent home at a price adapted to their economic circumstances".

Less than 80,000 euros

"Thanks to these aids," Rojas said, "families can buy a new two- or three-bedroom home for less than 80,000 euros."

The promotion of 44 protected homes in Arrecife will involve an investment by the Government of the Canary Islands of around 8 million euros, one and a half million for the purchase of the land that the Government acquired directly to alleviate the shortage of land and six and a half million for construction.

The homes are being built on a plot of 1,643.34 square meters of surface area, acquired by the Government of the Canary Islands in order to alleviate the shortage of land for the construction of protected homes, and located in the capital's neighborhood of Valterra.
