The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Department of Public Works, announces that the conservation and maintenance works of the bicycle lane of Avenida de Las Playas in the tourist town of Puerto del Carmen, specifically between Acatife Street and Avenida Italia, have already been put out to public tender. This is a project financed by the Secretary of State for Tourism (Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism).
This new action has a base bidding budget of 337,648.62 euros, excluding taxes, charged to the direct concession of a subsidy granted by the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands to the Lanzarote Cabildo, within the framework of the 'Plan for Tourism Infrastructures of the Canary Islands' (PITCAN)'.
The president of the Cabildo, M.ª Dolores Corujo, assures that "this new investment is essential to continue improving and modernizing the tourist and leisure spaces of our island with the aim of improving the quality of life and offering better services to citizens and all those who visit us".
"Lanzarote has extraordinary conditions to promote the use of bicycles as an alternative, healthy and sustainable transport, so these improvement works are very important," Corujo stresses.
For his part, the Councilor for Public Works, Jacobo Medina, explains that "the works will consist of the renovation of the pavement of the bike lane, which is quite deteriorated, with deformations and potholes, as well as the improvement of connectivity and radii of curvature so that the layout is safer, allowing a better coexistence between bicycles and pedestrians".
The work will be complemented by the horizontal signage of the bike lane following the existing recommendations in this regard, delimiting the maximum speed to ten kilometers per hour. With regard to the execution period, the works are expected to last two months, from the signing of the staking act.
