The mayoress of Teguise, Olivia Duque, as well as the first deputy mayor and councilor for Tourism, Beaches and Urban Planning, Rita Hernández, have held a meeting with the Lanzarote Tourism Federation, chaired by Susana Pérez, to address different issues of interest that affect the eighth island.

The recent water supply problems, caused by a breakdown located in Lanzarote and now resolved, are one of the main concerns for the Tourism Federation, as well as the request for a more careful image of the environment that will be reflected in an aesthetic ordinance that is being drafted. In this sense, the first mayor, Olivia Duque, reported on the maintenance and cleaning actions that the areas of Environment, Beaches, Mobile Park and Cleaning are carrying out in a coordinated and periodic manner.

“In addition, we have launched an information campaign so that organic waste is taken to the containers from seven in the afternoon and a proclamation has been drafted to inform about the need to remove accumulated debris in some private plots”, Duque stressed.

For her part, the Councilor for Urban Planning and head of the Technical Office, Rita Hernández, informed the representatives of the Tourism Federation first-hand about the evolution of the provisional ordinance of alignments and elevations in Caleta de Sebo and Caleta de Famara “which is vital for the urban planning of both nuclei, taking into account the neighborhood allegations presented after its public exhibition”.

Other aspects discussed were the sanitation plan for La Graciosa, “which we hope to promote with the support of the Government of the Canary Islands, as well as the improvements that we must undertake in the port, since the area of pontoons must be modernized and reorganized”, Duque explained.

Similarly, Rita Hernández reported on the planning documents of the Natural Resources Management Plan of the Chinijo Archipelago and Famara (PORN) and that is a prior step to the drafting of the Rector Plan for Use and Management (PRUG) that was annulled by the Supreme Court. “In this case, we are going to be in permanent coordination with the Island Council to analyze whether the PORN document -approved by the regional government a few months ago- is convenient for the specific needs of La Graciosa, because it has a great social and economic impact”, Hernández asserted.

The president of the Tourism Federation, Susana Perez, accompanied by Federico Romero, member of the Board of Directors, value this meeting satisfactorily, “because it allows us to address more specifically aspects that cannot become entrenched in time and resume the image of La Graciosa as an icon of a sustainable tourist destination” and allusion was made to the problem of taxis, “which already has an insular character and is putting at risk the image of quality that we want to convey to tourists”.

For their part, the representatives of the government group welcomed the request of the Tourism Federation to give them an office “since we want to travel periodically to La Graciosa to offer more personalized advice”, Pérez argued.
