Teguise approves the new General Plan: It is a historic date for the municipality

The Teguise City Council approved this Tuesday in an extraordinary Plenary Session the consolidated text of the new General Plan, which had the votes in favor of the government group, formed by CC and PSOE, and the abstentions of the PIL and the PP who, on the contrary, had voted in favor in the Informative Commission held last week, as reported by the Council.

The government group has highlighted that the planning will allow Teguise to have a design "to generate employment and attract investors and will provide legal certainty to residents and investors, based on legality criteria, and maintaining the philosophy and aesthetics of the towns." "It is time to look to the future, and celebrate the publication of the Teguise General Plan and its entry into force, which is already a reality with which we fulfill one of the main objectives of this legislature", said the mayor, Oswaldo Betancort.

Betancort considers that this is "a historic date" for the municipality of Teguise, since the new plan will allow "to unlock many projects that were waiting." Among them, is the development of some public and private projects, and commitments from several commercial and tourist firms to settle in the municipality of Teguise.

For his part, the Councilor for Urban Planning, Echedey Eugenio, also thanked the "good disposition of the different administrations, political groups, and the technical team, which has allowed us to take this important step for the municipality and its legal and investment security." The new planning foresees land for "the great projects of the future" of the municipality, such as the educational expansion of the Costa Teguise school, the Tao school, as well as the provision of industrial land and the creation of social infrastructures, among others.

Teguise approves the PNL on the island of La Graciosa

On the other hand, the Plenary Session of Teguise has also supported the Non-Law Proposal (PNL) on La Graciosa presented to the Parliament of the Canary Islands, which calls for greater independence for the eighth island.

The PNL urges the Government to include in the next Statute of Autonomy a mention of La Graciosa in which it is recognized as an inhabited island, as well as the modification of the Law on Rationalization and Sustainability of the Local Administration, which introduces as a case the minor local entity with legal personality that of an inhabited island, without prejudice to its administrative affiliation to Lanzarote.

The local mayor of La Graciosa, Alicia Paéz, has highlighted the "tenacity of the people of La Graciosa through their citizen participation tools, which has been a social achievement and a noble struggle for their identity." In this sense, the PNL includes the joint promotion, between the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the City Council of Teguise, of the operation of the Citizen Council of La Graciosa as a stable tool for citizen participation, necessary for joint management between groups and institutions.

"This is a great step, but only the beginning to recognize a fair claim that comes to compensate for the grievances of many administrations with La Graciosa during its history," the mayor insisted. The proposal also includes two points that affect the planning of natural resources to make compatible the life of the resident population and the conservation of natural values, as well as the realization of different essential activities in the territory, such as the cemetery, the heliport, the roads, agriculture and livestock, waste management and implementation of alternative energies.
