The Plenary of the Teguise City Council has approved this Monday its budgets for this year 2022, for a total of 40,950,000 euros, of which the Government group has highlighted the 3.3 million that will be allocated to waste collection and cleaning of parks and gardens, and almost 2.4 million in subsidies to all municipal groups. In addition, it emphasizes that they have "advanced" to the rest of the island's institutions, being the first to approve their accounts for this year, with "more expansive and generous" budgets for the social reconstruction of the municipality.

We would like the same responsibility with which these new Teguise budgets have been prepared to be demonstrated by the main spokespersons of the opposition, considering the importance of each of the items that fit into a puzzle in whose final image appear each and every one of the municipal sectors and groups, and each and every one of the towns that make up Teguise, including the island of La Graciosa, and including the largest investments in education, sports, culture, revitalization and social welfare, agriculture, animal ownership, among other investments that involve generating employment and improving infrastructure and services to citizens”, declared the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, after the approval of the budget.

“We have never stopped injecting oxygen into our admirable cultural, social, sports and educational fabric, increasing subsidies without undermining services to citizens, seeking that quality of life that all taxpayers deserve”, said Betancort, who also explained that “the requested credit of just over 8 million will mean more public investment and being able to meet pending accounts, such as judgments prior to this Government group and, therefore, unrelated to our management in urban planning matters”.

“Once again, regardless of the obstacles we have encountered along the way, and despite the decrease in tax revenues caused by the pandemic, we continue to invest and bet on Teguise and La Graciosa with accounts that seek to restore hope”, declared the Councilor for Economy and Finance, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, who also lamented “that the Government of the Canary Islands demands the return of what was delivered to the town councils, which has caused the citizens of Teguise to lose 460,000 euros”.

Jiménez listed several items that have been increased on this occasion, “such as waste collection services, parks and gardens, as well as the commitment and strong impetus to improve the animal shelter and stimulate responsible ownership of them, to which we must add support for field activity, which also increases to 200,000 euros and, of course, the firm and continued commitment to continue defending the culture of sport and consolidating sports tourism that attracts employment and economic health for citizens”.

Anniversary of Costa Teguise

From the City Council they remember that this year 2022 marks 50 years since the birth of the urbanization formerly called Explosivos Río Tinto and that today they say is "one of the most profitable tourist destinations in the Canary Islands and the best example of urbanization in Lanzarote". In this regard, they announce that the town of Costa Teguise will celebrate this anniversary throughout the year paying tribute "to its founders, its workers and all the sectors involved in the construction of an enclave in which tourists and residents coexist perfectly and in which investment continues to be made in its optimal development at all levels".

“These budgets include a special item to place Costa Teguise in the place it deserves”, said Oswaldo Betancort, who announced that “very soon" they will present a program of events to celebrate the golden anniversary of Costa Teguise. "I am convinced that it will help many to know its history, so linked to the tourist boom and also to the figure of our artist César Manrique and in which so many businessmen and self-employed people have worked and continue to work hard”, he added.
