The Teguise City Council has announced three sculpture competitions to honor Andrés Parrilla, Los Diabletes, and Rancho de Pascua. The deadline for submitting proposals opened this Monday and will end on May 15. All of them will be installed in the historical center of La Villa.
In all three cases, the project selected as the winner will receive the execution of the work as a prize. Thus, the Corporation will assume the amount indicated by the author in the project, which cannot exceed 4,000 euros. The City Council will become the owner of the rights to the work.
One of the sculptures will be made as a tribute to the figure of Andrés Parrilla, a resident of the municipality who was wounded in a terrorist attack while working off the African coast in 1978 on the fishing boat "El Tela". Despite the severity of his injuries, he heroically saved the entire crew, as the Council has recalled.
This work also aims to represent the rejection of any terrorist act and the adhesion of Teguise in favor of peace and understanding between peoples. The sculpture, in this case, will be located on Clavijo y Fajardo street, near the house where Andrés Parrilla lived. The Teguise City Council will be responsible for adapting the environment and its subsequent maintenance. This work will value the proportional relationship of its measurements with the environment. For this purpose, it is recommended that its final dimensions do not exceed three meters in any of its dimensions.
Rancho de Pascua and Los Diabletes
The second sculpture will be erected in homage to the Rancho de Pascua de Teguise, a tradition that has survived in the municipality since the 16th century. The selected sculpture will be located in the Plaza de la Constitución, in Teguise, near the Church of Guadalupe. The realization should not exceed 2.50 meters in any of its dimensions.
Finally, the third contest will serve to honor Los Diabletes, an ancestral tradition linked to the Corpus Christi festivities of this municipality since the Middle Ages and, later, to Carnival. The location conceived by the City Council is in the Plaza de San Francisco. Its structure should also not exceed 2.50 meters in any of its dimensions.
