The urban area of Villa de Teguise has become in recent months the scene chosen by hundreds of Lanzarote residents to spend Sunday night and this, according to the City Council, is causing "neighborhood problems, noise and public health" that they have been forced to "tackle".

"Last Sunday we had to take a tough stance on this issue and the Local Police carried out a control task in the streets that led to five people being sanctioned for violating the ordinance of activities, drinking in public roads", explains the Councilor for Classified Activities of the Council, Lourdes Cabrera.

In addition, the City Council points out that the Teguise Sunday drinking session has led in recent weeks to three sanctioning proceedings against those responsible for establishments that were violating schedules, in addition to the closure of another premises.

"Unfruitful" cleaning

From the Classified Activities area, in collaboration with the Local Police of Teguise, managed by Miguel Ángel Jiménez, they intend to eradicate any problem of coexistence and public health. "We cannot allow residents to be severely harmed in their rest by the right of others to have a good time. In addition, the dirt that is generated during the nights makes the cleaning we do after the morning market unfruitful", says Lourdes Cabrera, who recalls that the City Council invests 50,000 euros annually in cleaning the La Villa market.

The councilor also points to the preventive work of the Local Police in terms of Traffic: "We have multiplied and will continue to multiply interventions in the urban area, through alcohol and traffic controls, to avoid major problems among the young people who visit us", she warns.

According to the City Council, last Sunday alone, some 400 people gathered outside one of these central premises in the Villa.
