"The political associations of young people must free themselves from the manipulation of their elders and stop being a battering ram in interested struggles." This is how the general secretary of the socialist youth in Lanzarote, Jimena Álvarez, referred to the young nationalists of CC and the "use" that she believes the party makes of its youth organization.
After the Young Nationalists came out this week to criticize the electoral agreement reached by PSOE and Nueva Canarias to compete in the general elections in December, Álvarez points out in an opinion article that she does not intend to comment on that statement in which, she says, "they criticize with bitterness" that pact. She does criticize the "use" that CC makes of young people, which she considers "much more shameful than any legitimate agreement between parties."
"Participation in a youth political organization is the way for young people to begin to engage in public life and with the responsibilities of citizens and the community," Álvarez emphasizes. Thus, she defends that "it is important that these entities are independent and manage their own ideology, as their concerns, their demands, their vision and their historical moment are their own and specific."
In this sense, the general secretary of the socialists on the island believes that "in this path of growth and maturation, the young people of Coalición Canaria still have many steps to take."
