The Department of Social Welfare of the Arrecife City Council, headed by Maite Corujo, is allocating over 112,000 euros (112,450 euros) for the purchase of textbooks, school supplies, computer equipment, uniforms, and sports clothing for the year 2025.
This line of aid will directly benefit 282 people in the municipality, reinforcing municipal support for families with dependent children, after the agreements for the granting of subsidies on a competitive basis were approved at the last Government Board of the year.
The grants awarded range from 150 to 1,200 euros per beneficiary, depending on the socioeconomic situation and the criteria established in the call for applications, with the aim of alleviating the economic burden of each school year and ensuring that students can begin and continue their education on equal terms.
The Councilor for Social Welfare, Maite Corujo, has emphasized that "we are talking about a very important investment that reaches many families in Arrecife and has a direct impact on the daily lives of many households." In this regard, she has stressed that "access to educational resources cannot depend on the economic capacity of families, and from the City Council we work to ensure that no child is left behind."
Corujo explained that these grants cover not only textbooks and basic school supplies, but also computer equipment, uniforms, and sportswear, "adapting to the real needs of the current educational system and the expenses families face throughout the school year."Likewise, the councilwoman highlighted the social nature of this call, stating that "from Social Welfare, we manage these grants with criteria of equity, transparency, and responsibility, ensuring that public resources reach those who need them most." In her opinion, "investing in education is investing in the future, in social cohesion, and in opportunities for Arrecife.""Adequate school supplies or a uniform in good condition directly influence a student's self-esteem and their ability to keep pace with the class; we are investing in the present, but above all, we are investing in the future," concludes Maite Corujo.
