Armando Santana, counselor of the Mixed Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, will request in the next plenary session the construction of a cenotaph in memory of the majos, ancient settlers of the island, as a gesture of recognition and tribute to their historical and cultural legacy.

The counselor shares that "the arrival of various foreign cultures has contributed to the development of Lanzarote, however in many cases it causes the valuable legacy of its ancient settlers to be lost sight of."

For Santana, "the Island Council of Lanzarote and La Graciosa is the maximum responsible for protecting the culture and history of the island and that is why in the statement, he highlights the importance of preserving the memory of the majos, the first inhabitants of Lanzarote, whose rich cultural heritage and contributions are an essential part of the island's identity." "The history of the Majos is deeply linked to our roots and deserves a prominent place in the present and future of Lanzarote," he says.

"The proposed cenotaph would not only be a symbol of respect for the ancient settlers, but also a space for learning and reflection for residents and visitors," he says. According to Santana, "its construction could include historical and artistic elements that allow educating about the customs, beliefs and ways of life of the majos," he says.

In addition, Santana stresses that this project would be an opportunity to "promote cultural tourism in Lanzarote, attracting those interested in the history and local traditions." "A cenotaph dedicated to the majos not only enriches our cultural heritage, but also reinforces our commitment to the conservation of our identity," he says.

Finally, the counselor urges the Cabildo "to include this project in its strategic planning, highlighting that initiatives like this are fundamental to strengthen the link of citizens with their past and ensure that the memory of the majos remains alive for future generations."
