Two and a half months after his controversial trip to South Africa to accompany a group of firefighters to a championship, the president of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, still has not made public the money that this trip cost the institution, in which he apparently also took advantage of to carry out other activities. This is reflected in some images disseminated on Instagram by a skydiving company in Cape Town, which has made public photographs of San Ginés' jump.
"The president of Lanzarote, Pedro San Ginés Gutiérrez, flying like a boss", they point out in the text that accompanies the images disseminated on this social network by the company Mother City SkyDiving, which offers different services related to skydiving, including tandem jumping accompanied by an instructor for people who jump for the first time.
Officially, the reason for San Ginés' trip to South Africa was to accompany a team of firefighters from the Security and Emergency Consortium to the World Rescue Challengue 2018, a championship in which firefighters from different countries test their skills in rescuing victims of traffic accidents. In total, Pedro San Ginés spent seven nights in the country, from October 21 to 28, and the images disseminated by this company reflect that he also had time for other activities.
After learning about this trip to South Africa, the president responded to criticism from the opposition by assuring that he had paid for the trip "out of his own pocket". However, he later had to acknowledge that he only paid for the ticket and that the institution covered the rest of the expenses. Furthermore, as La Voz later published, the Cabildo not only paid for the hotel where the president stayed, but also "expenses", "taxi/rental car" and even "allowances", as stated in a decree signed by San Ginés himself to authorize these payments two weeks after returning from South Africa.
Since then, the opposition has been demanding to know the total cost of the trip, but the president still has not made it public. "The rest of the travel expenses are what is established by the Institution for workers and public officials. How much is it? When the reports are available, we will give them to you," San Ginés responded during the November Plenary to questions from the Podemos spokesperson, although that was two and a half months ago and he still has not provided the information.
