The restructuring in the Cabildo's government group, which has involved the incorporation of another non-elected councilor and the transfer of two councilorships held by CC to its government partners, has also included the appointment of a new island director.
The designated person is José Domingo González Benasco, who thus becomes the new island director of Participation, reporting to the Council that coordinates Óscar Pérez. González Benasco is one of the trusted people of the president, Pedro San Ginés, who appointed him as advisor since his first term at the end of the 2007-2011 legislature, after acceding to the position through a motion of censure.
Some time later, Benasco, who is a sociologist by profession, submitted his resignation to attend to "other professional commitments", according to San Ginés at the time. However, he hired him again shortly after, in 2012, and again at the beginning of the current legislature, although he was dismissed seven months ago.
Dismissed for a PP advisor to enter
It was in January of this year when San Ginés agreed to his dismissal, stating that the reason was that they had filled all the advisor positions and that he needed a vacancy to appoint one from the Popular Party, which had just joined the government group. However, it should be remembered that around the same time, CC had also appointed another advisor to its ranks, Juan Fernando Fariña Guillén.
At that time, there was already talk of the possibility that González Benasco would be dismissed as an advisor to take on another position. Finally, after seven months in which he would have returned to his private activity as a sociologist, one of San Ginés' oldest advisors has returned to the Corporation with this new appointment as island director of Participation, less than nine months before the elections.
