The San Bartolomé City Council has granted subsidies to four non-profit entities "to face the reality of the current situation of users through the different services they offer and that have been diminished by Covid-19." A total of 40,000 euros have been granted, at a rate of 10,000 euros per entity, with Cruz Roja, Cáritas-Parroquia de San Ginés, the Social and Cultural Association for Women Mararía and the Cultural and Social Association Trib-Arte being the beneficiaries.
The mayor, Alexis Tejera, and the councilor of Social Welfare, María Dolores Fernández, held a meeting this Monday with representatives of the four entities, with the presence of Nieves Rosa Hernández, president of Mararía, Tamar Luis Placeres, president of Cruz Roja Lanzarote, Cristina León Ponte, president of the Cultural and Social Association Trib-Arte and Miguel Ramón Hernández Suarez, representing the San Ginés parish, also accompanied by members of the different entities and the councilor of Social and Humanitarian Emergency of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez.
"The work that is carried out from the associative fabric and non-profit entities has to be supported by the institutions, for the immense work they do with different segments of the population and therefore, the scope of the work they do has to be reinforced. We have to support the aid from different fronts and this is our purpose," said the mayor.
From the Consistory they remember that through Cáritas-Parroquia San Ginés "families of the island who have low or no economic resources are supported to cover basic needs, through parish reception, protection and detection of needs and referral to food distribution and clothing collection, workshops and volunteer training".
Regarding the Cruz Roja Responde program, "it covers the needs of the most vulnerable through a comprehensive intervention. They seek to contain the precariousness of the living conditions of people in vulnerable situations, contributing to cover basic needs, facilitate access to external and own resources that improve the social, family and work situation, working at this time with food cards and home benefits".
Mararía, for its part, "is clear that one of the factors of vulnerability and risk of exclusion is gender violence, having resources such as legal and psychological advice, in an information center for women at risk and social exclusion, food bank, and supervised housing for women".
Finally, Trib-Arte develops actions in the social, educational and artistic fields, and from the City Council they emphasize that "it works the 'Women's Space', a meeting point and space of trust that seeks to promote equality".
