The San Bartolomé City Council has managed to fulfill a historical demand in the municipality with the ratification of the demolition of the building of the old Maui nightclub, located on the right side of the LZ-2 road, at the height of Playa Honda.
The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, celebrates the decision of the justice that, after denying the precautionary measure requested by the owners, “will finally allow the demolition of an infrastructure in ruins, mainly improving the safety of pedestrians and vehicles that circulate on the adjacent roads, as well as the image of the main entrance to the island of Lanzarote.” In addition, the mayor wanted to value the work carried out from the Urban Planning Area to expedite this procedure so important for safety and aesthetics in the municipality.
“This demolition was a historical demand of the citizens of San Bartolomé and a commitment of this government group that, thanks to perseverance, efforts and good practices, we have managed to fulfill, which represents a great boost for this municipality and for the management we are carrying out,” says the mayor.
The Councilor for Urban Planning, Marlene Romero, detailed that, based on a municipal technical report that states that “the property poses a serious risk to the public road...” and that “the current state of the aforementioned property anticipates an inevitable collapse...that endangers pedestrians who may approach the construction and the road traffic that circulates continuously through its environment,” we transferred the demolition execution order to the owners, giving them a period of 15 days, in which they did not act.
Given the inaction of these and in a subsidiary manner, the City Council drafts a demolition project and puts the works out to tender, although the start of the same has been delayed until the judicial resolution that denies the precautionary measure to the owners.
Finally, and in this line, the mayor Isidro Pérez announces that work will be done to develop an access lane to the LZ-2, heading south, for which conversations have already begun with the Ministry of Public Works of the Government of the Canary Islands.
