Ryanair does not allow purchasing airline tickets with resident discount

The airline Ryanair does not allow the purchase of airline tickets with resident discount for several days. After the modification that Ryanair has made to [its website->www.ryanair.com], the company has eliminated this option. In none of the steps of the reservation can you access this discount, of 50 percent of the plane ticket.

La Voz has also verified that in search engines such as Rumbo, when trying to apply the resident discount, the possibility of buying a ticket with Ryanair disappears. On the contrary, if this discount is not applied, the search engine does inform about the flights of this company.

In the Edreams search engine, the matter is even more curious. When trying to book a ticket through this search engine with Ryanair, the resident discount is only 10 euros. For example, if the ticket costs 96 euros, a resident of the Canary Islands would pay 86 euros.

La Voz has contacted the airline, which has assured that they are having "problems with the system" on the website. In this sense, they have indicated that "they are trying to solve it", but have not specified when it may be solved.

What they have assured La Voz is that you can opt for the resident discount on another Ryanair website, at www.ryanair.com/ie, but only by entering with the Modzilla browser. However, this page is in English and, in addition, La Voz has verified that it does not apply the resident discount either.

Worried users

Several readers have contacted this media outlet to report these facts. One reader has stated that he has been trying to buy a ticket with Ryanair since May 23. "I sent them a fax to inform them of the problem, but they have not answered anything yet," he said.

Likewise, another reader has stated that he has been trying to book a ticket for "a couple of days", but the Ryanair website is not applying this discount. "We have contacted the company through, of course, a special rate number and they have not given us any solution. They have simply indicated that we should keep trying, that they already knew, because several people had called asking about this issue," he indicated.

In this sense, he stated that the company told him that "they could not make the reservation by phone". "They told us to buy the tickets without a discount and claim later. We have demanded that they give us a solution, because we understand that our rights are being violated. However, their response has been the same: 'Keep trying'".

The elimination of the resident discount is a great detriment to people who live in the Canary Islands. "It is of interest to all Canarians, who depend on a low-cost company to be able to travel to the peninsula. Otherwise, it would be impossible for us and, even more so, if we add to this the closure of Spanair and the cancellation of routes by Easyjet and Vueling," insisted a reader.
