The new PNL councilor in the Yaiza City Council, José Antonio Lemes, took office as councilor this Wednesday, replacing the former mayor, José Francisco Reyes, who resigned from his position when he was admitted to the Tahíche prison. The ordinary plenary session of the Yaiza City Council approved this decision as a matter of urgency, as reported by the Council through a statement.
Similarly and as a matter of urgency, the favorable vote of the PIL and PNL groups served to approve the signing of an agreement with the Ministry of Territorial Policy of the Government of the Canary Islands. Through this agreement and making use of the possibilities offered by the Urgent Measures Law, the technicians of the autonomous Executive are empowered to prepare a General Planning Plan for the municipality of Yaiza. This will include the forecasts and commitments regarding the structural content and detailed planning that is necessary to implement general systems, facilities and public services, in accordance with the urban planning in force.
In addition, this agreement "could exempt the City Council from paying the costs of drafting the document". In this way, the Council led by Gladys Acuña will be the first in the Archipelago to take advantage of this type of agreement.
Support for residents
After ratifying the results of the City Council's management audit as of December 31, 2008, as provided for in the Law of the Canary Islands Municipal Financing Fund, the members of the Plenary approved, this time unanimously, "to support the residents of the municipality to the fullest extent". In addition, they approved requesting the Agency for the Protection of the Urban and Natural Environment to suspend the resolutions ordering the demolition of buildings located in the Natural Area of La Geria until the Special Plan for the Protected Landscape of this place is approved.
Finally, the southern councilors supported two motions presented by the PSOE councilor, Olivia Cedrés, which referred to the implementation of a legal department to solve the problems with the sanctions related to the Municipal Ordinances; and to urge the Government of the Canary Islands to provide items for the projects that the City Council considers fundamental for the future development of the municipality. These initiatives are, for example, the expansion of the Yaiza and Playa Blanca Health Centers, the start of the I.E.S of Playa Blanca, the provision of health care to have 24-hour health care and the start of the file for the future Playa Blanca Pier, among other projects.
