The Titerroy Neighborhood Association has addressed the mayor of Arrecife, José Montelongo, to ask the City Council to rehabilitate the Juan Salazar Ortiz housing park. They claim that the basements of these houses are "full of water" and the residents "fear that their homes may fall down" for this reason, so they urge the mayor to "seek the necessary financing to undertake the improvements."

This housing park, which has 100 properties and is located between Burgos, Logroño, Soria, Segovia and Ávila streets in the Titerroy neighborhood, was built in 1968. According to the association in its letter to the mayor, "despite the good location of the same, since it has educational and sports centers in its surroundings, the image of these buildings is not the most appropriate, in addition to not complying with security and urban planning measures". "Despite the effort that tenants and owners have made to maintain their homes, these require a remodeling as a whole", they point out.

"This institution has granted aid for the rehabilitation of homes"

In their letter, the members of the neighborhood association remind the mayor that the institution "has granted different aid for the rehabilitation of this type of housing", as well as "in other municipalities of the archipelago", they add in reference to the Government of the Canary Islands.

According to the Association, the last time improvements were made was in 2014, in the garden area. "The gardens were very damaged, offering an image of total degradation, and it was the young people of the area who decided to get to work and request the collaboration of Parks and Gardens to, together, be able to recover that space", they explain.

The residents of Titerroy conclude their letter by requesting the mayor to "give the appropriate orders for a technician to visit and evaluate the state of the basements of said homes." They also ask that "a rehabilitation project be carried out on the exterior, as well as on the common areas of the Juan Salazar Ortiz buildings" and they "invite him to seek the necessary financing to undertake the improvements."
