A week after the tragic event that cost the life of a five-year-old boy, access to the Puerto Naos dock has finally been closed to vehicle entry. The Port Authority has placed a series of fences that make the area inaccessible, a "preventive measure before definitively installing the bollards that will prevent access to automobiles", says Manuel Vidal, Head of Communication for the Port Authority of Las Palmas, who assures that the bollards "will be placed as quickly as possible."
The presence of security guards in the area has also increased, as the port now has not just a single Port Police officer, but a couple of officers watching the area where the tragic event of Friday, October 31st occurred.
The fencing of the Puerto Naos dock was installed during the morning of last Friday, so this has been the first weekend in the nearly 50-year history of the Arrecife port in which access to the fateful dock, which three years ago also claimed the lives of two young people, is closed to the public.
What still remains to be clarified is the lack of lighting in the port area during the night of the tragic event, as for the moment "the investigations continue without news", according to the Port Authority. It should be remembered that the last hypothesis that they were considering from this authority was that the wiring that provided the electrical current for the lighting "had been allegedly manipulated", as the Head of Communication of the Port Authority stated last week.
