Puerto Calero raises its twenty-fourth Blue Flag

The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, and the president of Calero Marinas, José Calero Rodríguez, raised this Tuesday, together with the first deputy mayor and councilor of Southern Tourism, Ángel Fomínguez, and the director of Operations of the marina, Constante Lorenzo, the Blue Flag 2019?2020 awarded to Puerto Calero by the Association of Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC).

From the Yaiza City Council they point out that "only six Ports in all of the Canary Islands will fly the Blue Flag during this season, due to the high demands involved in obtaining it," highlighting that "the Puerto Calero Marina demonstrates once again with this award, and there are already twenty-four, its strong commitment to quality and excellence."

The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, congratulated the managers of Calero Marinas for "the effort involved in maintaining this level and commitment for so many years." "It is a true pride for our municipality that one of the six Ports in all of the Canary Islands that has obtained the award is in Yaiza", he pointed out.

For his part, Ángel Domínguez highlighted "the importance that receiving this award also has at a tourist level. "Not only for the port or the municipality, but for the entire island, since it provides an extra distinction and quality over the rest of the nautical offers of other destinations," he pointed out.

According to the Yaiza City Council, the managers of Calero Marinas expressed their satisfaction and ratified their commitment "to continue working to maintain this distinction that certifies the quality of its waters and services, in addition to continuing to develop training and information actions to promote environmental education."

"Working" to recover the Blue Flag in Playa Blanca

Both Óscar Noda and Ángel Domínguez also stated that the Yaiza City Council "is already working" to recover the Blue Flag that the small beach of Playa Blanca has flown for many years, whose loss they have indicated "has nothing to do with the lack of services or poor quality of its waters, but is due solely and exclusively to a new requirement that is required to hold said award and that requires having a rescue and lifeguard module on the beach or in its perimeter."

According to what they have explained, the City Council proposed that it be in the area near the public toilets "to avoid loading the beach with more furniture (it already has a lifeguard watchtower and a shaded area) in order to reduce the visual impact, something that has not been accepted" and on which they have insisted that they are already "working to achieve a consensus that allows the distinction to be recovered."
