The Heritage Councilor of the Arrecife City Council, Maciot Cabrera, announces the beginning of the public consultation period for the Environmental Assessment of the Protected Cultural Heritage Catalog of the municipality; a crucial step in the process of safeguarding Arrecife's rich cultural heritage for future generations.

The Cultural Heritage Protection Catalog is a fundamental tool for the identification and preservation of the cultural and heritage assets of Arrecife, including architectural, archaeological, ethnographic, landscape, industrial and sculptural elements. This instrument is part of the General Planning Plan of Arrecife and is updated to comply with Law 11/2019 on Cultural Heritage of the Canary Islands and other current regulations.

The public consultation, which begins this Monday, March 3, 2025, will last forty-five (45) business days, as published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC).

During the public exhibition period, the technical documentation, which includes the draft Catalog and its Strategic Environmental Document, will be available for consultation on the portal of the Ministry of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Water of the Government of the Canary Islands in the following link.

Likewise, interested parties, whether natural or legal persons, are invited to examine the documentation and send their comments and suggestions.

“This is an opportunity for the citizens of Arrecife to participate directly in shaping the future of our heritage,” says Councilor Maciot Cabrera. “Our heritage is what defines us, and by working together, we can guarantee its conservation and promotion,” adds the councilor.

The purpose of this consultation is to collect accurate environmental information for the preparation of the Strategic Environmental Report, in accordance with article 18.2 of the Territorial Planning of the Canary Islands.

Maciot Cabrera highlights that “this catalog not only identifies and protects our valuable heritage assets, but also establishes a specific protection regime and promotes the conservation, research and dissemination of our cultural heritage. In addition, it provides legal certainty to owners when rehabilitating their properties.”
