Primary Care professionals of the Lanzarote Health Area, attached to the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, attended a total of 758,280 consultations in the first half of 2025, which represents an increase in activity of 5% compared to the same period of the previous year.
The multidisciplinary teams of the health centers and local clinics in Lanzarote, which include Medicine, Family and Community Nursing, Pediatrics, Midwives, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Speech Therapy and Dentistry, have mostly experienced an increase in the number of consultations attended in the first six months of this year.
Constant growth
Thus, Family Medicine consultations, the most numerous in Primary Care, experienced a growth of over 6% and totaled 389,095, which is a figure that had never been reached before. In fact, if compared with the data from 2023, it shows a difference of over 14%.
Family and Community Nursing consultations totaled 179,398 between January and June of this year, which represents an increase of around 2% compared to those attended in the same period of 2024. For their part, Pediatrics consultations remain practically the same as last year, with 58,670 consultations attended.
The activity of Primary Care midwives grew by around 13% until June, as they carried out 16,641 consultations. On the other hand, speech therapists attended 4,023 consultations in that semester, a figure that confirms the continuous growth of this activity in the first level of care. Consultations with Psychology professionals are also growing, who carried out a total of 6,551 consultations.
More diagnostic tests
On the other hand, the number of diagnostic tests performed by Primary Care professionals in the first semester of this year is very significant, totaling 2,372, which reflects an increase of over 60% compared to last year.
In the case of Minor Surgery, 902 interventions were performed until June, and the growth of outpatient ultrasounds is also important, increasing by 36% compared to last year, with a total of 1,271 performed in this first semester of 2025.
The retinographies performed in health centers and local clinics, within the Retisalud eye health program, total 2,936 in the first semester, a figure that corresponds to the care of 85% of the Lanzarote population susceptible to inclusion in the program.
The work of Primary Care dentists reaches 6,200 consultations, while other professionals such as social workers total almost 5,000.
Continuous, personalized and close care
The manager of the Lanzarote Health Services, Pablo Eguia, and the director of Primary Care, María Eugenia Perdomo, agree in pointing out the "multidisciplinary work of the professionals who offer continuous and personalized care in the health centers and local clinics in an accessible and close manner to the Lanzarote society".
Perdomo also emphasizes that "the work of these teams improves the quality of life of patients, and affects the prevention and early detection of the disease, the monitoring of chronicity and the reduction of inequalities in health".
