After the reopening of the tourist market of German and English origin, the Lanzarote en Pie-Sí Podemos group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote has shown its "concern about the effects that may occur on the good epidemiological data of the island" and has formally proposed to the first island institution to reorient the activity of the “Covid-19 Prevention Team” and focus it on the nuclei with the highest tourist influx.

"Thanks to the effort and responsibility of the citizens, Lanzarote has managed to contain the pandemic and enjoy some of the best epidemiological data in the state and the arrival of foreign tourists may represent a setback", reflected Myriam Barros, spokesperson for the formation in the Cabildo.

After the elimination of some restrictions that affected our archipelago by Germany and the United Kingdom, this weekend began to arrive "numerous tourist flights from these countries, thus reactivating the economic sector that employs the most people in Lanzarote", says the purple formation.

However, given the health situation in those countries that send visitors, which are in the midst of the second wave of covid-19, the political group Lanzarote en Pie - Sí Podemos in the Cabildo of Lanzarote asks for “citizen prudence but, above all, institutional responsibility and to take all precautions so that the situation that now seems controlled does not become complicated”.

"Risk situations are already occurring"

According to the group, “in some tourist areas such as Playa Blanca and Puerto del Carmen, risk situations are already occurring and the feeling of health insecurity is increasing, which is leading to the dissemination of videos and photos on social networks". For this reason, they understand that it is “a priority” that the so-called “Covid-19 Prevention Team” focus its efforts "on reminding the people who visit us of the health regulations designed by the competent authorities".

“Workers in the sector cannot put themselves in danger by going to work, so we believe it is essential that these measures be taken immediately”, concludes Barros.
