The San Bartolomé City Council has concluded the drafting of the project for the creation of "cycle streets" within the coastal town of Playa Honda. The implementation of this initiative, according to the City Council, seeks to "combine respect and coexistence between vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians, achieving a practical place for all passers-by."

"The goal is to become a European city, increasingly accessible, where coexistence between all the elements that circulate through our streets is encouraged. This measure will delve into the safety and tranquility of all the people who step on Playa Honda, residents and visitors, as it promotes the civic commitment of coexistence,” said the mayor of San Bartolomé, Alexis Tejera.

The measure proposes the layout of a circuit of "cycle streets" inside Playa Honda intended for the circulation of cyclists. These lanes will be painted inside the streets of the town and will coexist with existing road traffic, "guaranteeing cohabitability."

Close the maritime avenue to cyclist traffic

With the placement of "cycle streets", the San Bartolomé City Council confirms its commitment to close the Playa Honda Maritime Avenue to cyclist traffic "for the benefit of pedestrians, offering a viable and modern alternative to bicycle users." With this measure, "cyclists will not see their desire to unite the three municipalities in a bicycle ride diminished," they defend from the Consistory.

In addition, they specify that this initiative is only "a first step while the project for the creation of the bicycle lane that connects Playa Honda with the neighboring municipalities (Arrecife and Tías) is being drafted."
