The Ministry of Economy, Industry, Trade and Self-Employed of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Vice-Ministry of Economy and Internationalization, has granted a subsidy to the Provincial Federation of Metal and New Technologies Companies of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Femete) to develop the project “Connecting Colombia: Canary Islands-Colombia Alliances for technical training and sustainable business development”.

The aid, which is granted for reasons of public and economic interest, is framed within the "Promotion of Internationalization Projects" line and constitutes a strategic objective to reinforce the presence of the Canary Islands as a key player in the Blue Economy, especially in the fields of shipyards, welding, and industrial technology, connecting Canarian expertise with one of Latin America's most relevant naval hubs.

According to the Grant Order, "Conectando Colombia" is born to enhance the capacity of the Canary Islands as a provider of specialized technical training, transferring knowledge and advanced pedagogical models to Colombian institutions.

The project is structured through a comprehensive program of teacher training in technical skills, complemented by cross-cutting sessions on equality and sustainability, internships in companies, and masterclasses given by international specialists.

It also includes a business mission to Cartagena de Indias (to which Bogotá could be added), aimed at generating strategic contacts, opening business opportunities, fostering alliances, and enabling Canary Islands companies to identify areas for cooperation and expansion within the Colombian industrial ecosystem.

This activity will include visits to shipyards, business meetings, and the organization of a sector event to foster contacts and cooperation. Through this action, the project aims to generate concrete business returns, promoting agreements, technical transfers, and the consolidation of bilateral relationships that strengthen the competitiveness of Tenerife's metallurgical and technological sector.
