The deputy of the Canarian Nationalist Group for Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Oswaldo Betancort, has invited the Cabildo of Lanzarote to activate the aid for farmers that he assures that "they will receive in Fuerteventura."
Betancort lamented a few days ago "the passivity of the Government of the Canary Islands and the breach of its word with the farmers", and demands that the Cabildo of Lanzarote pay the aid to the sector "immediately".
"I do not understand how Lanzarote and its agricultural sector continue without receiving a penny, while the Cabildo of Fuerteventura announced this week that it will allocate 6 million euros to strengthen its primary sector," says the deputy.
Betancort points out that a total of 4 million will go, exclusively, "to the livestock sector in order to alleviate the overcost of animal feed", and 2 million will be allocated "to maintaining employment in the agricultural and fishing sector". "Faced with this news, I wonder what the aid in Lanzarote will be and when it will arrive, if the socialist party is thinking about the farmers and the difficult situation they are going through," adds the deputy.
"As a representative of the citizens of Lanzarote and La Graciosa in Parliament, my duty is to convey what the latent needs are, in this case, of the livestock sector, and what the possible solutions are, as long as there is political will," said Betancort.
"In that sense, I proposed to the Minister of Agriculture a series of measures to support the sector despite the exorbitant price of inputs that is affecting the viability of their farms, such as the immediate increase of 20% allowed in the items destined for animal feed and eliminate aid for the import of direct consumption products, which compete with our productions," he adds.
"While this exclusive aid to farmers does not arrive from Tenerife, my duty is to insist to the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote to show some empathy and capacity or, simply, to take note of the colleagues of Fuerteventura, who in addition to the 6 million announced, will convene a parallel line of aid for farmers and fishermen with the aim of maintaining employment in one of the activities that is suffering the most from the sharp rise in fuel," he concluded.
