The plenary hall of the Island Council of Lanzarote was the setting this Tuesday for the celebration of an extraordinary plenary session in which, according to Councilor Óscar Noda, "the worrying economic drift of the government presided over by Oswaldo Betancort has been verified again."
Noda abstained from voting on point 6 of the call relating to the Economic-Financial Plan 2025-2026 of the Island Council of Lanzarote and the use of surpluses. For the councilor, “the Plan is nothing more than another disaster of the Administration of Oswaldo Betancort that hinders many of the commitments acquired by the Cabildo of Lanzarote in previous years, even by his own Government. Furthermore, vital issues for the island remain in the air, numerous problems that greatly affect its inhabitants such as the lack of housing, the lack of water and, above all, a project in which they had also committed to execute 20 million euros for the burial of the towers.”
“The economic report from the auditor that they have uploaded to the file”, Noda continues, “reflects that the surpluses have been invested in non-structural expenses, in non-priority expenses, in expenses that have not mitigated or that do not clash head-on with what Oswaldo Betancort states."
According to Noda, "this approval of the Economic Financial Plan aims to incorporate 10 million in surplus and with that amount, for example, they will not be able to assume the commitment they had acquired for the 136 homes in Yaiza with the Government of the Canary Islands and with the Yaiza City Council, nor will they be able to fulfill the commitment they had acquired for the burial of the towers because 20 million are needed and, of course, they will not be able to assume the commitments to provide the Island Water Consortium and the Island Water Council with the renowned projects and works necessary to mitigate the water problems that we are suffering in Lanzarote.”
“But on the other hand, we are not going to sit idly by and I am going to request meetings with the political groups of the Parliament of the Canary Islands to try to save those projects with regional financing”, he continues.
For the councilor, “The Intervention of the Cabildo of Lanzarote once again exposes the continuous lies of Oswaldo Betancort regarding the commitments acquired and the resolution of the real problems of Lanzarote. There will be no money for the homes in Playa Blanca this year, there will be no money for the burial of the towers and there will be no money to resolve the water crisis. Yes, there has been money for parties and cultural events of all kinds, but there has been no money to solve the important problems of the citizens, that is the shameful summary of the government of Oswaldo Betancort."
Thus, he continues saying that "another thing that denotes what we have experienced today is the lack of economic capacity and the economic difficulties that the Cabildo of Lanzarote is going through, compared to Yaiza, which has been able to incorporate 22 and a half million in surpluses for this economic year in expenses for works and projects. The Cabildo, the first island institution, will only be able to add 10 million”, Noda concludes on "a disastrous day for the island of Lanzarote due to the mismanagement of Oswaldo Betancort."
In another order of things and, despite these criticisms, Noda has supported and "saved", in the vote, the island government in matters as important as, for example, the renewal of the Island Environmental Body, necessary to continue advancing in the preparation of sector reports and authorizations to provide legal security to our territory. For Noda, this support is granted by “the high-mindedness that should preside over all political activity, because he believes in positive politics for citizens, in helping, contributing and lending a hand above the partisan controversies to which the three major parties have accustomed us."
