The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, has described as "petty, not to say another word", the attitude of his government partner, although for now he is still not considering a break with Coalición Canaria, and blames what happened on the "internal division" of the nationalist formation.
"In principle, as far as I'm concerned, they are still government partners," he said on Radio Lanzarote – Onda Cero, after the statement sent last week by CC, denouncing the "abandonment" of Civil Protection in the municipality.
For Noda, that press release "shows that they were also behind the attempted motion of censure" against him. "They said no, and I turned the page, but now they are proving me right," he insisted.
Despite this, he says that he has neither met with CC nor asked for the pact table to be convened. "I'm not going to waste any more time on that. Let them decide what they have to decide and from there, we'll see what needs to be done," he said.
The mayor also wanted to differentiate the attitude of two of the CC councilors, Ángel Domínguez and Fátima Viñoly, who he says are doing "an commendable job". In contrast to them, he places the local secretary of the party, Mateo Ramón, and the new candidate for mayor, Emilio Machín, who were the ones making statements in that last statement.
"At least one of the gentlemen who speak there, whether he is released or not, is still part of the government group," Noda stressed, who considers that "it makes no sense for them to dedicate themselves to attacking their own government partner when we have given them practically everything."
"You don't know who to talk to in that party"
"Their internal division is more than evident. I think that when a party is headless, things like this happen. And if those at the top, who are the ones who have to dot the i's, don't do it, then that's how they are," he questioned.
In fact, he pointed out that that is why he has not even requested a meeting after that press release. "I didn't know who to ask for it from either, because you don't know who to talk to from that party. In that sense, I'm telling you, I won't waste time on that, I'll waste time on what needs to be done, for the good of the neighbors and that's it," he reiterated.
Regarding the pact, he insisted that he has no intention of breaking it, because he gave his "word that it was a pact for four years". "If I didn't break it at that time, when clearly, and now it is demonstrated, they were behind all the mess (of the motion of censure), I'm not going to do it now, because now what matters is to be united, move forward, take out the projects that the municipality lacks and look after the interests of the neighbors, which I think Ángel Domínguez and Fátima are doing. Maybe not the rest."
Without coordinator in Civil Protection
Regarding CC's criticism of Civil Protection, the mayor has acknowledged that they have not yet appointed a new coordinator, after the resignation of the previous one. "He was saturated because it is true that the pandemic was hours and hours of service, more than 11,000 services, and we are very grateful to him, but now it is true that we have to find a coordinator. A suitable figure to organize the services. They are volunteers, after all, they have no obligation to come, only if they can and have availability," he specified.
That is why he says that they have resorted to an "external reinforcement", through a company, which is another of the issues that his partner criticized. According to Noda, the "Security Council asks" for it
"First of all, we have to comply with that path. In any case, this week the councilor and I are going to hold a meeting with all the volunteers and see a little the steps to follow. And of course I say that we have had the best Civil Protection on the island and we will continue in that line," he assured.
