CC asks its government partner in Yaiza for explanations for the "abandonment" of Civil Protection

“There is no one in charge, and in addition, a private company is being paid to cover the security of the events. It seems that the objective is for Civil Protection in the municipality to disappear," questions Emilio Machín

The Local Committee of the Canarian Coalition in Yaiza has publicly requested explanations from the City Council, where it co-governs with UPY, for the situation of "total abandonment" that it claims the Civil Protection volunteers in the municipality are suffering; and has demanded "immediate solutions".

“According to what they themselves have told us, they have been waiting since the month of July for someone to be appointed to take over the coordination, as the mayor promised, in a meeting in which the Security Councilor was also present”, stated the CC candidate for Mayor of the southern town, Emilio Machín.

However, "four months after the aforementioned meeting, not only has the coordination problem that this Municipal Group of Volunteers has been dragging for some time not been resolved, but the situation has become more complicated as the City Council has let time pass without executing concrete actions", add from the nationalist formation.

From CC they point out that the structure of Civil Protection "is hierarchical in nature, which, on the one hand, facilitates the internal coordination of the different sections, areas, groups and teams and, on the other hand, helps other emergency bodies with which they share services to know who to turn to to coordinate or transmit instructions". "In other words, if there is no person to coordinate, the entire structure is broken", they emphasize.

“There is no one in charge, no boss, no coordinator. It seems that the objective is for Civil Protection in the municipality to disappear, which is not understood”, points out the local Secretary of Organization, who assures that, in addition, a private company has been paid to cover the security of the events that are taking place lately in the municipality.

Meanwhile, Machín affirms that members of Civil Protection have conveyed to the Canarian Coalition their concern about the "disinterest that the City Council is showing". “They have a new ambulance, which cost them money, completely stopped and with the sanitary inspection expired after the time to pass it has expired, some of the vehicles that are in the warehouse have not passed the MOT, others do not even start and the material, neglected and without anyone to organize and take care of it”, he questioned.

For his part, the local secretary of CC, Mateo Ramón, asks himself "what are the reasons why neither the mayor nor the Security Councilor are allowing Civil Protection volunteers to even be summoned to ensure the safety of the latest events held in the municipality".

“It seems that someone is forgetting the great work that all these people do, who ensure the safety of everyone. From CC we not only ask for explanations about their situation but we demand that an urgent solution be found”, claims Mateo Ramón.
