The current Tourism Councilor of Yaiza, Ángel Domínguez, does not hide his “disappointment” at the way Coalición Canaria has chosen who will be the next head of the party's list in the municipality. “I think it has been like a game with marked cards, to compare it with something”, he questioned on Radio Lanzarote – Onda Cero.
Domínguez, who was the head of the list in the last elections and aspired to repeat in the position, could not even be present at the Local Committee assembly, which was held last Thursday, October 6.
“There was an assembly in its day where the date had to be decided because, in theory, the candidates had to have been chosen before September 30, but due to various circumstances that could not be done. I stated that I would not be in Lanzarote from October 4 to 10 and, in fact, it was agreed that the elections would take place on the 11th. Two or three days later, I found a written document registered by the local secretary and the secretary of organization and candidates, where they changed the date to October 6”, he said.
Then he affirms that he reiterated that he was not going to be on the island, “because he had a trip organized since July with more people”, but “even so, it went ahead”. Finally, in the vote, the other candidate, Emilio Machín, won, obtaining 95% of the votes, compared to 5% for Ángel Domínguez, who believes that he also faced other obstacles.
“I think that the right thing to do would have been for both candidates to have the possibility of accessing the list of affiliates, being in contact with them, for each one to present their ideas and then, of course, respect the decision of each one, to vote for whoever they deem appropriate. But sincerely, I think it was a mistake and that is how I express my opinion. Like it or not, that's what I think”, insisted the mayor.
"Time puts everyone in their place"
Regarding his future, he has not clarified whether he will be part of that CC list. “That has to be asked in its day to the Assembly that decided this date, whether they will count on me or not. It is not something that worries me either. I understand that politics are stages and that you are there for the time you have to be and then another colleague will come who will do it the same or better than you. Therefore, when the time comes, we will see and make the most appropriate decision”, he pointed out.
In any case, he has made it clear that currently the relationship with his colleagues is not good. “I am not going to deny that I am disappointed right now. To say otherwise would be lying. But well, as they say, time puts everyone in their place. Right now I am going to focus on the work of the Government group and what the future holds, well, we will see in its day, but right now I am not thinking about that, sincerely”.
In any case, he has stated that “if he has to talk to them” he will, “without any problem”. “I think that people understand each other by talking, but then in other matters... We'll see with time. I also agreed to speak with the president of the party, Migdalia Machín. I was talking to her on the phone that same afternoon and, if I have to sit down to talk to her, there will be no problem”, he added.
