The Local Committee of Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-bc) in Tías claims from the municipal government group of the PSOE and Podemos the urgent creation of a Family Respite Center in Tías, "a fundamental social resource to support caregiver families and improve the quality of life of people in situations of dependency," the political party has stated in a press releaseFor Juan de León, spokesman for the Canary Islanders in the municipality, "the aging of the population, along with the increase in people with disabilities and dependency, makes it essential for the Tías City Council to promote a public service that offers specialized daily care, while allowing families to have time for rest, work-life balance, and emotional relief".“We defend that this Family Respite Center should not be limited solely to the elderly, but rather be aimed at dependent persons in degrees I, II, or III, as well as people with disabilities, attending to a **diverse and growing social reality in the municipality. **This resource would allow for specialized daytime care, stimulation activities, and professional accompaniment, while guaranteeing a necessary physical and emotional respite for caregiver families,” added de León.According to the Canary Islanders, the implementation of this service would contribute to preventing the well-known "burnout syndrome," improving the quality of life of those who assume daily care and providing dependent people with a safe, dignified environment with recreational and therapeutic activities adapted to their needs. The center should have a multidisciplinary team, made up of professionals from psychology, social work, and occupational therapy, and operate during daytime hours to facilitate the reconciliation of family and work life
It is considered that this service should be a priority within municipal social policies, with planning, budgetary allocation, and real political will. There are nearby experiences on the island that demonstrate that these types of resources are viable and necessary, so there are no reasons to continue delaying their implementation in Tías
“Caregiver families cannot continue to bear alone a responsibility that is also public. Tías needs to advance social policies that care for those who care,” NC-bc has indicated.
Thus, the municipal government group has been urged to launch a Family Respite Center in Tías, attending to a growing and long-neglected social demand
However, NC-bc in Tías will continue working to place social policies at the center of municipal action and build a more just, supportive, and committed municipality with its people
