Nueva Canarias (NC) and the Renovating Movement of Tinajo (MRT) have reached an agreement this Friday to join forces and go together in the next local and regional elections, according to a statement by both political forces.
The objective is to determine the majorities of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and to be present in the Parliament after the 2023 elections, the note states.
The presidents of NC and MRT, Román Rodríguez and Antonio Morales, have signed the agreement, which guarantees the local autonomy of the second political force of the Town Hall of the Lanzarote town and to expand the area of influence of progressive Canarianism in the archipelago.
The signing of the agreement of "unity and political cooperation" closes a dialogue process initiated between both political formations two years ago.
The president of the MRT, has stated that Tinajo "needs to be renewed, a change" based on the singularities of a town that has a national park, the patron saint of the island, the potential of the area of the Isleta de La Santa, a natural park, the largest production of grapes on the island and an important gastronomy".
Morales stressed the importance of having other representatives in higher institutions such as the Cabildo, the Parliament and the Canarian Government, sensitive to the needs of Tinajo.
After emphasizing that MRT will maintain its local autonomy, Román Rodríguez has guaranteed the powers of this political formation in the elaboration of the municipal electoral list and the program at the same time that he has advocated for coherence for the celebration of possible alliances.
This agreement makes number 17 of those signed by NC since its foundation in 2005, said Rogríguez, who added that local movements are the "DNA of progressive Canarians".
