Nueva Canarias has shown its "maximum" respect for the decision of the councilors of Tías and Tinajo to leave the party and has stated that it is already working to configure the candidacies in these municipalities. "We have people interested in this task," said the territorial coordinator of NC, Luis Campos, on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero, who nevertheless said he "does not share" the reasons given by the councilors.
"They have done an important job and now they have made a decision that we do not share, but we have to respect it," Campos pointed out, who has also reaffirmed the pact that NC has sealed with Somos Lanzarote, which has also been questioned on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero by the councilor Mame Fernández, who has also acknowledged that he was in favor of Gladys Acuña becoming the island coordinator of Nueva Canarias, stating that this has been one of the reasons for his resignation.
"We understand that there are people who do not share it, that their preferences are with Gladys Acuña. We have an exceptional relationship with Gladys, she will continue until the end of the legislature as a deputy of NC, she works perfectly coordinated with us, and she has decided to start a new project in alliance with other political organizations that we have absolutely respected, and we have started a similar alliance to the one we have had with her in these four years with another nationalist organization of left-wing nature such as Somos Lanzarote", said the territorial coordinator of NC, recalling that the pact with Somos was "a decision adopted unanimously by the National Executive" of the party. "And it has also been endorsed by the majority of our colleagues on the island of Lanzarote," he added.
In addition, despite the resignation of the three councilors, Luis Campos hopes that NC will "multiply by three or four" its representation in the municipalities after the elections of May 26. "And we are convinced that Borja Rubio will be a deputy for Nueva Canarias in the next legislature in Parliament and that we will have an important presence in the Cabildo of Lanzarote," he said.
"They have always had us by their side and they know it"
However, the territorial coordinator of NC has acknowledged that the departure of the three councilors "is not good news". "But obviously we would have been more concerned if it had happened in the first year, because we would have been left without representation, without being able to defend our ideas and our projects in these municipalities, but it has been four years of intense work," said Luis Campos in any case, who has "thanked" Mame Fernández, Érica Machín and Ramón Ortiz for the work done during this legislature.
"And they have always had us by their side and they know it, for amendments to the State, to the Autonomous Community, we have made several visits to the municipality and the relationship has been quite positive", Campos said in response to the accusations of the councilors of Tías and Tinajo, who stated that they had not felt "integrated or supported" by the party, criticizing its "lack of coordination" in Lanzarote.
Finally, the territorial coordinator of NC has pointed out that the party expects that by mid-March "all or 95% of the lists" will be formed. "There may always be some municipality in the Canary Islands where we are closing some agreement or alliance, but fundamentally I believe that on March 15 all the candidacies will be defined," he indicated.
