Nueva Canarias has expressed its "absolute rejection" of the project to install a biomethanization plant in the Naos neighborhood, "in the heart" of Arrecife. "From our political organization we do not understand how it is possible that a plant of this type, located a few meters from the Castle of San José, in a residential area and in one of the main entrances to the city, has authorization without anyone opposing it", says the party, in reference to the file processed in the Government of the Canary Islands.
"We demand maximum information and transparency about this project, since at this time the residents of the affected area are concerned about an activity considered sensitive and in which in other places where this type of company has been installed, it has generated numerous problems of bad odors and public health", warns NC.
“It is even more incomprehensible, when we are currently trying to put all possible efforts into changing the image of the city, that someone would think of and, worst of all, be allowed to install a landfill of more than 12,000 square meters in the heart of the city”, says Armando Santana, secretary of Nueva Canarias in Arrecife and councilor of the capital's government group.
"Installing a plant capable of treating 85 tons of waste or what is the same, 31,000 tons per year of garbage in the capital of Lanzarote, is simply despising the residents who live in it and our organization will be against it", he has advanced.
In addition, the party has stated that they are not opposed "to this type of plant", but "to its location", which they describe as "unfortunate". "We trust that there will be alternative spaces for this, with the responsible administrations committing to finding an alternative as soon as possible", they said.
