Microsistemas will go to court again after Education's refusal to open the Business School

The Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands has published an Order by which it denies the start-up of the Lanzarote School of Business Studies, attached to the ULPG. The reasons for the refusal are based on the fact that the teaching staff selected by the School has not obtained the "Venia Docendi" from the University.

Therefore, and in view of the disagreement with the Order, the owner of the Lanzarote School of Business Studies, Microsistemas, will once again go to the courts to demand responsibilities from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPG) for what they consider "an action not in accordance with the law".

According to the management of the center, "it is not true" and "contravenes the legislation in force for private university centers", that the call for teaching staff must be public, as well as the ULPG argued to reject the opening of the center. In addition, they declare that the Ministry of Education has agreed with them on this point, "since it is the method that governs for all of Spain and in the scope of the European Union", according to the press release sent by Microsistemas.

On the other hand, the management of the School assures that in the fourteenth clause of the Agreement of Attachment of the center to the ULPG it is established that "after the teaching staff is selected, it will finally be proposed to the ULPG, after an individualized and reasoned request, the obtaining of the Venia Docendi".

In practice, according to the School, "in addition to violating the legal framework in force, the University asks late and untimely for the public call to select the teaching staff (in the three-way meeting on October 24). A condition that from the center recognize that they never refused although they opposed objections because if done, the start of classes would be delayed to the second semester.

For all these reasons, Microsistemas considers that the University "acted in bad faith" and that it is "against the creation of a private university center of Business Studies in Lanzarote". Thus, the School will meet on Monday, December 17, with the registered students to explain the steps to follow if they want to join the legal claim.
