The councilor of the Cabildo and PSOE candidate for Mayor of Teguise, Marcos Bergaz, will also be Loli Corujo's number two for the island's first institution, according to the general secretary of the socialists in Lanzarote. "That has been closed for some time," said Corujo. "And I am convinced that no PSOE member, supporter or voter has any doubt that a good tandem is clearly formed," added the socialist leader on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero.
"The number two for the Cabildo is closed and now Marcos Bergaz has the double responsibility of assuming the candidacy for the Teguise City Council, which I am sure he will do very well, just as Brito has done so far," said Corujo, who, although she stated that Bergaz's candidacy for the Mayor of Teguise was "sudden", because Brito had announced that he was not going to run for it, believes that he is "the best candidate".
"What the PSOE intends and is doing for the next elections is to turn things around in all the municipalities where we can and I am sure that with Marcos Bergaz and with all the colleagues who are going to accompany him on that electoral list we have very important options to rebuild and contribute to a socialist Teguise, so I am happy with his decision," he said. "I am sure he will do very well, just as Brito has done so far," he added.
The general secretary highlighted the work carried out by Marcos Bergaz in the Cabildo during this legislature, both as a councilor of the government group in charge of "one of the most sensitive areas", that of Territorial Policy, and in the opposition. "He has done an important job both from the organic point of view and from the responsibility of the opposition and the government and he is a person I trust", said Loli Corujo, who therefore said that Bergaz will also be her number 2 in the Cabildo.
Candidacies for the municipalities where the PSOE does not hold primaries
With regard to the candidates for the Mayorships of the municipalities with less than 20,000 inhabitants, where the PSOE does not hold primaries, Corujo has indicated that everything will be closed "at the beginning of March".
"Now they will have time, from February onwards, to form their electoral list and the candidacy and to convene the corresponding assemblies, and at the beginning of March everything will be finalized," said the also aspiring candidate for the Cabildo, who will also have to form the list that will accompany her to the first institution. "Now are intense moments for inside, which is what any member likes the most: to debate, to talk, to form an electoral program...", he added.
"I am not going to be president or vice president with the support of San Ginés"
"What Loli Corujo has made clear is that "the PSOE is going out to win" in the elections and that in no case, whatever the results, will it pact with Pedro San Ginés, whom she has criticized for now trying to "project something that he has not been able to achieve in his 20 years in the Cabildo and in his 10 years as president" and say that he would be willing to pact with the PSOE.
"Now he pretends to say that he is capable of governing with everyone without saying that he always ends up alone because there is no political party that supports a full legislature with him and there must be some reason. It does not mean that the world, as I have always said, is wrong and that only he is right," said Corujo in this regard, who has invited San Ginés to "reflect" on it. "My position is clear, I have already said it publicly. The PSOE is going out to win the elections and, obviously, we are not going to form a government with Pedro San Ginés. I am not going to be president with the support of Pedro San Ginés or vice president in the same way", he insisted.
"Concern" about the internal crisis of Podemos
Finally, the general secretary of the PSOE in Lanzarote has shown her "concern" about the internal crisis that Podemos is experiencing in Lanzarote, which has led its island leadership to announce that it will leave the party after the elections. "I have always tried to be very cautious and respectful with the organization of other parties and with their internal debates, but the situation of Podemos is no secret to anyone that it is worrying and a lot", he indicated.
However, Loli Corujo hopes that the purple formation "can resolve it as best as possible for its own party and, obviously, for the next elections, for the final result in Lanzarote".
