Manuel Domínguez, president of the Popular Party in the Canary Islands and vice president of the regional government, was this Thursday on the program Buenos días, Lanzarote of Radio Lanzarote - Onda Cero to discuss some issues and also respond to the situation in the PP on the island after Ástrid Pérez, president of the party in Lanzarote, dismissed Jacobo Medina as vice president of the Island Council.
In addition, a week ago, a radio announcer from Tenerife launched rumors about alleged irregularities carried out by Jacobo Medina in the Cabildo of Lanzarote as well as by Yonathan de León, mayor of Arrecife, in the City Council of the capital.
Regarding this, Domínguez has stated that he looks at this situation "with sadness because we have to be sensible, I don't like as president of the Popular Party that there is noise around our formation because we are a serious party and I have taken on a difficult challenge for more than two years but exciting where the collaboration of each and every one of those who say they are part of the PP is needed".
"I have always said, this is voluntary and one runs for elections with a clear objective which is to defend the interests of the citizens but, beyond that, I am calm because I know that this does not go much further. There are very serious people in the environment and who know where they are but communication errors have been made and wanting to wash dirty laundry outside the house instead of inside and I have always been against all that", the president continued saying.
Regarding the dismissal of Jacobo Medina as vice president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, he has revealed that "I have not spoken with Astrid Pérez but I also do not have such a deep knowledge of such a specific event to be able to pronounce on it because I do not know the reasons, I have always liked the delegation of powers and I have always liked to trust people".
"I am given a delegation of very important functions in the Canary Islands and when I see that there are situations that worry us and sadden us, we put the team to work and it has been Poli Suárez, the general secretary, who has had the function of seeing what is happening in Lanzarote and without paying attention to those public opinions that are always biased", he points out.
Regarding the alleged irregularities carried out by Jacobo Medina in the Cabildo of Lanzarote as well as by Yonathan de León, the president of the PP in the Canary Islands has assured that "he is not worried and it is a shame that in politics they try to win elections outside of what is our responsibility".
"When one runs for elections it is to tell the citizens that I have a better project than yours but it seems that in this country politics has deteriorated in such a way that that project of yours to improve the lives of the citizens is put aside and look for how to break the life of the person with whom you are running. That other is a citizen of the place in which you want to govern and then you are going to belittle and remove him, don't count on me for all that stupid fight in which we are immersed in these recent times. If someone has something to prove, let them do it where they have to do it", he concluded.
