The Tías Ulpiano Rodríguez Pérez wrestling arena hosted a special performance last night by the mythical Canarian group Los Sabandeños, as part of the program organized by the Tías City Council for its patron saint festivities in honor of La Candelaria and San Blas.
Los Sabandeños, who received an apotheosic applause from the numerous audience, presented their latest record "Viejo y Nuevo" where they compile a song dedicated to Doña Lola, a person closely linked to the history of Tías, wife of the well-known doctor Don Pancho Perdomo, grandmother and grandfather of the tenor Pancho Corujo, and the folklorist Ciro Corujo. Doña Lola and her family had a residence in Masdache, where the members of Los Sabandeños went "to enjoy a succulent millet broth, according to Elfidio Alonso, the alma mater of Los Sabandeños, revealed last night".
During the musical performance, which was recorded by the TV Canaria program Noche de Taifas, a special mention was made of the recent declaration of La Graciosa as the eighth Canary Island. Los Sabandeños performed a musical theme dedicated to this small sister island of Lanzarote.
Together with Los Sabandeños, who already have more than one hundred records recorded, a representation of the El Pavón group, linked to the folklore of Tías, and several dance couples from the Güerma Folkloric Group, also from the municipality of Tías, performed last night in the Terrero de Lucha de Tías.
The young musician and presenter of Noches de Taífas, Elvis Sanfiel, interviewed the mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, during the recording of the television program, who highlighted the historical devotion that this municipality of Lanzarote has towards La Candelaria, its patron saint. The first mayor also promoted Puerto del Carmen as the tourist and economic engine of the municipality and the island of volcanoes as a whole.
The young quarry of folklore from Tías and Lanzarote had the opportunity last night to demonstrate that the sap of the folkloric traditions of Lanzarote continues with these new generations of children and adolescents who love Canarian folklore.
Personalities linked to the folklore of Lanzarote such as the deceased Juan Brito and José María Gil were mentioned last night in Tías during the recording of this special program for TV Canaria that will be broadcast throughout the Archipelago on the night of February 2, the day of the festivity of La Candelaria, patron saint of Tías and other areas and municipalities of the Canary Islands.
